We are stoked by the generosity of all who have supported the cause. A month after the launch of this initiative, with another pledge for adopting a painting, together we have raised 1110 dollars and reached our goal. The funds raised would be supplemented to bring our joint efforts to 50,000 INR.
Team Sopaan thanks each one of you, who supported and spread the word for this cause, from the depths of our hearts. No words can do justice to the gratitude we feel.

The concept is as simple as it could get!
You show your support by donating Rs. 100 for 1 km!
We aim to get the entire 1500 kms supported and thus raise Rs.1,50,000
Funds distribution
1. Atleast two grass-root level NGOs would benefit from the funds we raise through 1ka100

However this time around, its Paromita who is celebrating her birthday by trying to do something for the society!
Her initiative Deepdana (http://paromitadebareng.com/) is aimed at raising Rs. 30000 in 30 days, by selling some of her selected photography work!
Paromita is a photographer of immense talent, and this intent of giving something back to the not so privileged, definitely warrants for a lot of support! Please do visit the initiative website, please do spread the word, please do connect back with her to contribute!
Everything helps!!!

We would be doing a clothes collection drive to focusing on clothes for kids. There would be multiple collection centers/locations identified and volunteers would be required to manage the collection of clothes.
The collected clothes would then be collated, segregated by size, washed, ironed and packed before they are donated to some identified charity/construction sites.
If you are interested in participating in any form, please do write to me at prashant@sopaan.org or connect@sopaan.org

I am in the process of collecting information about how to get the NGO registered... the last few months have helped learn a lot of things, and gain a tremendous amount of perspective from various people about having your own NGO. The views range from "Oh God! not another NGO in the millions already present!" to "Hmm! interesting! so what do you intend on doing?"
And every such question has reassured me that what I am doing right now, though has been done by many before me, still remains something that people.

With the support of a few friends, I have started planning for a new campaign! Currently in the process of creating initial content, planning promotion methods, brainstorming on execution methods amongst other activities.
I have also started reviewing the documentation requirements for the NGO registration. Once that is done, would start working on getting the bank account created.
2010 looks like a very promising year so far! Full of energy and optimism!

The title 30on30 has an interesting story behind it.
I was turning 30 in April 2009 and wanted this to be a special occasion. Had planned for a month long holiday to celebrate the entry into the 30s, however couldn’t do that because of my on site assignment.
The next best idea came to my mind sometimes during the last week of March, and it involved putting up 30 of my photographs for sale for 30 days, to raise Rs. 30000 which would be used for some grassroots level initiative.

Please tell us about your idea...
What is the idea about?
How do you think we can implement it?
Where do you think would we face challenges?
What, in your opinion, would make the idea successful?
Can we sustain what we initiate with the idea? How?
Its ok to just have a brain-dump as well, we will try to work on it together with you!

Right to Information is a relatively new act in India and a lot of people are still not aware of this act or how it can be used. I follow a blog regularly on the news of RTI.
You can reach this blog @ India RTI or subscribe to its feed to get regular updates in your RSS reader.
There is website in Hindi as well, which can be reached here. This website contains a lot of detailed information about the act, and the associated content.

We are working on a few initiatives while you read this blog post...
In March'10, we plan to launch our third fund raiser and on similar lines like Chitrakaar and 30on30.
This time we bring together various artists (Painters, Craftsmen, Photographers) and put their works up on sale for 45 days.
Some of these would have a flat pricing, and others would be on an auction. The funds collection via this initiative would be spent on Child Education and Rights in the state/city of <> through our partner and close to heart NGO <>.

इन्द्रधनुष, means a Rainbow and like the colors of the Rainbow, is an attempt at adding colors to the lives of thousands of kids who we feel responsible towards!
This chapter of Sopaan focuses on empowering any initiatives related to Child Education or Child rights!
Sopaan would be doing this through
1. Fund Raising Initiatives
2. Spreading the word around using Social Media and other channels
3. Partnering in grassroot initiatives
4. Facilitate initiative promotion through Photography
